A real life journey.
Ready?
At the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival I was quite taken with the story of one particular man.
His name is Tim Cope.
In 2004 at the age of 25, Tim decided to journey across the Eurasian Steppe, 6000 miles from Russia to Hungary – on horseback mind you. He was extremely interested in the life of the nomad and Genghis Khan, the supreme nomad.
His love of ancient cultures and from what I could see, his adventurous curiosity, took him through many ups and downs on that trail, a trail which has shaped his subsequent life.
On the trail, he lost his girlfriend to a disease, and later to another man, lost his father to a freak car accident and lost hope many a time.
Along the way he had his heart broken, his horses stolen, his life threatened and his expectations violently adjusted.
It’s a truly astounding process which he originally thought would take 18 months but ended up taking 3 years.
(For more – read his book, “On the Trail of Genghis Khan; An Epic Journey Through the Land of the Nomads.”)
Why am I telling you this?
Because of the results of the story.
Tim, in the flesh, some would say, is disconcertingly calm. There is no pretence, no ego and certainly no sign of any veils when you meet this man.
What you see is certainly what you get. To some that is quite confronting. It’s a pure form of energy that I have only encountered a few times in my life.
If you’re open to this energy, you will want to stay. You will want to soak up the openness that is this honest human being.
If you’re not, you’ll run a mile or simply not notice.
I, the groupie that I was, bathed in it. I unabashedly had him sign my book and do you know what his dedication was to me?
“Dear Lynda, if you’re going to rush… rush slowly.”
Perfect.
See, this man lived without borders and without time and relied on the land and the kindness of strangers for a lot of his food and certainly shelter for three years. He’s no longer a part of convention.
That’s the power of putting your dreams into action.
With love
Lynda
