In the last week I’ve started a course in ‘soul expression’ with the good people of Soul Sessions and Matt Omo, my friend and healer. (He is fricken awesome, btw. I highly recommend him and his centre here in Sydney.)

I’m doing this course in order to help find my truest expression. In many ways I am already expressing myself. I am teaching, running a business, blogging and writing, for other publications as well as my own. Life is really very good right now. And I’m proud of it. But as a coach, I like to walk my talk. I believe there is always another level to go to, another depth of layering to explore and reveal for each and every one of us.

One of the tasks for home play (or homework – doesn’t home play sound much better?) is to record your emotions each day, at least 5 per day.

I’ve realised across the course of my life that emotions are transient things. They pass.

We are all seeking happiness… Yet happiness is actually fleeting. And at no time is it more obvious then when you start recording your emotions on a consistent basis.

In one day I’d gone from feeling restless, to excited, to stuck, to restless, to bored, to calm, to peaceful, to frustrated, to angry, to tired, to exhausted, to grateful.

And they were just the ones I recorded!

A famous saying comes to mind during these times – this too shall pass. Everything passes, including the pain.

This phrase comforts me during times of anguish, grief or sadness. It is impossible for these feelings to remain. We move through them. They pass.

So if you’re finding yourself in a quandary, remember your emotions are transient. That this too shall pass.

But even more than that, notice. Notice what you are actually feeling across a day. Are there any patterns? Do you consistently feel a few or one emotion? Do you consistently feel this at certain times of the day or when faced with certain activities?

Once we are aware and have noticed, we are able to start the real work. We are able to delve deeper and get to the heart of the matter – the why.

So here’s my challenge to you. For the next week, do what I’m doing. Record your emotions and notice what, when and attempt to answer why you are feeling them. Then, ask yourself why again. Then ask why again. At the very bottom of the pile will be your root cause.

And having that awareness is 95% of the journey on the road to transformation.

With love

Lynda
