Lord have mercy I’m beating myself up today when it comes to writing this blog. I have the content, I just don’t have the words!

I’m in one of those indecisive moods where I’m just not sure which way to go with it. This way or that, this way or that? Argh!

It reminds me of the speaker I saw on Friday at a networking lunch. This woman talked about resilience – and she should know – she survived cancer. Twice. Remarkable.

One of her key messages in the road to staying resilient in this life was decision making.

See, each time she was diagnosed with firstly cancer in her lymph nodes and then her brain, she made a decision – I am going to survive. That was all. She didn’t need to know how she was going to do that. That didn’t matter. Nor did it matter that the chances of her surviving longer than 6 months were slim. All she knew was – categorically and unequivocally – that she was going to survive. She made it so.

The difference, she said, was not in choosing to live. No. It was deciding to live.

Let that sit for a second.

Deciding, not choosing.

When we choose we open ourselves to variety and the opportunity to change it. If we make a choice and don’t like it, we can go back. We are unconsciously giving ourselves permission to tick tack to and fro.

On the other hand, if we make a decision, it’s more concrete. It narrows us into that particular path and direction. It provides us with less room to move and more room to focus, focus, focus, allowing our attention to be channelled.

If you think about your life and how it’s showing up for you (or how you’re showing up for it) – think about it in this context; Are you making choices or are you making decisions?

I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Let us know, have you made a clear decision and felt the difference between that and ‘choosing’?

With love

Lynda
